Global economy heading where?

I attended a CIMB seminar today, exclusive to preferred customers, and one of the key speakers was Song Seng Wun.  I remembered interviewing Song when I was a reporter a very long time ago.  He is still the same tongue-in-check economist who has a very unique sense of fashion (aka suspender pants guy).

Planning for Aging Parents - What Do You Do?

After attending 3 wakes in the past month involving the passing on of friends' aged parents or parent-in-law, I am beginning to feel a little uneasy that my husband and I haven't really started planning for his aging parents.  For two of our friends, their parents passed away after a long struggle with illness.  For the third, the mom died suddenly after being admitted to the hospital and diagnosed with acute lung infection.

Renovating our "dream" apartment for under $50k

In one post, I talked about how we went about searching for our "dream" apartment.  Well, the next big expense was of course the renovations.  I very often hear people say that since one has already spent so much buying a property, it only makes sense to renovate it to its fullest.  Besides, it's a hassle to add in new items later.

Help needed: Where to park short-term cash?

I have been using Standard Chartered's e-saver promotion to park short term cash.  It has been serving me well because of its liquidity (you can withdraw anytime since it has no fixed tenure), relatively good returns (1.4% p.a. for amounts of over $200k) as well as ease with inter-bank transfers using online banking.

5 Phrases to Avoid If You Want to be Financially Successful

Remember how when we were young, our parents would love to say things like,"Money doesn't grow on trees" to tell us off when we pester them to buy something.  Now that I am a parent myself, I take great pains to stop myself from saying such things, especially in front of my kids.

We finally bought our "dream" home…by keeping it "real"

In December last year, we finally bought our so-called "dream" apartment.  It took us about three years to narrow down to this particular unit.  Whatever took us so long?

Financial Freedom = Choice to Quit from Your Job

One reason for the long dearth of fresh articles from me was that something major happened in our household about a year ago.  My husband quit from his company where he has worked for 16 years. And with no job in hand.  It was no easy decision, trust me.  We went through many hours of soul-searching, number crunching and scenario planning before arriving at this concerted decision.

Managing Our Time Like We Manage Money

Strange how some books don't speak to you until you re-read it.  This book "168 Hours - You Have More Time Than You Think" is just what I need to get my act together right now at this stage of my life.

As a mom, wife, family CFO, small-time freelance writer, aspiring yoga teacher, I often struggle to find the right balance on how to utilize my 24 hours a day. (Yes, I took the plunge and was officially certified as a yoga teacher in February this year!)
